Gareth appointed Assistant Editor

24th January 2014

Gareth will become BBC Radio Leeds' Assistant Editor from the start of 2014.

He has been asked to step up and fill the role for three months, as Station Editor Rozina Breen takes on an attachment with BBC Radio 4. That sees current assistant Katrina Bunker become Editor, and she has asked Gareth to move from Sports Editor to Assistant Editor to support her.

Gareth's new role includes him overseeing the station's important Mid-Morning show, presented by Wes Butters; producing the station's Radio Academy Award entries; and planning for the Tour de France Grand Depart, which is in Leeds in July.

"This is an exciting role to take on and I'm both surprised and touched to be asked to do it. I think it shows how far I've developed as a manager and the huge strides forward our sport output had made since I became Sports Editor," said Gareth.

Gareth will continue to work closely with the BBC Radio Leeds sports department and present the occasional West Yorkshire Sport programme.
