Gareth loaned to Leicester

01st January 2014

In 2014 Gareth will become one of the voices of BBC Radio Leicester's coverage of rugby union giants Leicester Tigers.

Gareth was approached by BBC Radio Leicester to present nine games, including the prestigious European Heineken Cup match against Ulster and the big Premiership clash with old rivals Bath.

Gareth's loan move to BBC Radio Leicester sees him team up for the first time with his father Bleddyn, who has been the station's Tigers commentator for over 30 years. Bleddyn played 333 games for Leicester and was recently named the club's greatest ever fly half.

Father and son have 'come up against' each other before with Gareth commentating for Leeds Carnegie and Bleddyn for Leicester. However this is the first time they've have the chance to work together.

Gareth said: "It was a huge surprise but a fantastic honour to be asked by BBC Radio Leicester to present their Tigers commentary.

"I grew up at Welford Road [Tigers' home ground] watching the team. I was never good enough to play for them, but this is the next best thing. I just have to ensure I don’t say Dad on air"

As well as presenting, Gareth will also commentate on Tigers’ match at Harlequins in the LV Cup
