Gareth becomes a ref (well, a bad one)

07th November 2013

To get an insight into the challenges of being a football referee, Gareth attended a ref's training course.

Presenting live from the West Riding County FA, Gareth and colleague Adam Pope took on a series of referee training sessions ran by Premier league ref Bobby Maddley.

They learnt how difficult it is to make the right call under pressure; found out what goes into training new officials; and debunked some of the myths around what are and aren't actual laws of the game.

Both Gareth and Adam made terrible referees and certainly game away from the programme with a new found respect for referees.

Many thanks to the West Riding County FA and Bobby Maddley for hosting BBC Radio Leeds.
