Sport Win Gillard Silver Award

10th November 2014

BBC Radio Leeds has won Silver in the Sport Category for at the Gillard Awards for their outstanding Tour De France coverage.

It's the second time in Gareth's three years a Sports Editor that the station has been nominated in the sport category. This year's Silver follows on from the 2012 success with a Bronze for the coverage of Nicola Adams' Gold medal at the London Olympics.

What the Judges said: "The station decided to embrace the fact that the Tour de France was starting in Yorkshire, with comprehensive coverage that was lively, innovative and exciting and made excellent use of social media. They made it more than just a sporting event – though the actual race coverage was very good – and conveyed a real sense of pride that this world famous race had come to their patch."

Gareth said: "We are very proud to win Silver after our wonderful coverage of the Tour de France. It was a wonderful station team effort and just goes to show what can be achieved when a whole station works together towards one goal.

"Since I've been Sports Editor we've won a Bronze and Silver, so we are getting closer to that Gold!"
