Another Sports Journalism Award Nomination

01st February 2016

Gareth's Bradford City Fire Documentary has been shortlisted in the Radio Sports Documentary Category at the British Sports Journalism Awards.

"Valley Parade - The Bradford City Fire Remembered" was produced by Gareth and colleague Tim Daly to mark the 30th Anniversary of the tragedy.

The programme aired on both BBC Radio 5Live and BBC Radio Leeds and guests included Bradford captain Peter Jackson; star player John Hendrie; Lord Popplewell, who lead the inquiry into the Fire; and fans who were at the stadium on the day.

It is now consecutive years BBC Radio Leeds has been nominated at these highly prestigious Awards, following on from being "Highly Commended" for their Tour De France coverage in the 2015 Awards.

"To be nominated in consecutive years highlights the strong sport editorial output BBC Radio Leeds consistently produces," said Gareth.

"It's an honour to be nominated again at such important and respected Awards. However this nomination takes on added meaning and emotion as our Bradford City Fire Documentary was such an important and sensitive programme for our audience."

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Monday 22 February
