Speedo - Gary Speed Remembered

28th November 2012

Tuesday 27th November 2012 marked the one year anniversary of Gary Speed's death and the world of football once again remembered a true gentleman of the game.

Gareth created, organised and edited a special programme about Gary Speed in BBC Radio Leeds' own tribute to the Leeds United legend.

The programme, Speedo - Gary Speed Remembered, documented Gary's career, told through the eyes of his friends, family, team-mates and managers, who revealed their own favourite stories and memories of Gary, many told for the very first time.

Programme guests included Howard Wilkinson, his father Roger, best friend Neil Parsley, Simon Grayson, Eddie Gray, Chris Morgan and the Welsh FA's Jonathan Ford.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the programme and for sharing their wonderful stories.

The programme received great praise from listeners, football fans, radio professionals and contributors alike.

Cledwyn Ashford discovered Speed as an eight-year-old and became a close friend. He kindly gave his time to be interviewed for our programme and gave this kind response after hearing the documentary.

"What a fantastic tribute you paid Gary. It was an excellent programme which covered every aspect of Gary's life, both professionally and personally. It was lovely to hear what his friends and colleagues had to say about him. Thank you so much for doing such a great job of editing and producing a fitting tribute to a special person."
